MLK Day Activities – Monday January 19

Community members are invited to attend a series of free Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in Northeast Michigan on Monday, January 19. These programs honor Dr. King’s legacy through education, reflection, and community action.

At 2:00 PM, Rev. Lenny Avery will present the Letter from the Birmingham Jail in the Granum Theatre at Alpena Community College.

From 4:30–5:30 PM, a Chili Supper Fundraiser will be held at the Lumberjack Shack at ACC. Proceeds will support Loads of Love laundromat coupons distributed by local social service agencies.

The evening program begins at 6:00 PM in the Besser Technical Center Commons. Sandra Pilgrim-Lewis will present Being the Change: Leaders/Heroes We Have Been Waiting For, focusing on engaging others across differences.

All events are free and open to the public and are presented by the MLK Committee of Northeast Michigan.
